Wings

My video's concept involves two distinct parts. The first part features energetic techno music, symbolizing my intense moments dealing with projects, assignments, and the challenges of daily life. Suddenly, everything comes to a deliberate halt, transitioning into a serene and emotional piano melody, beautifully composed by my friend. This second part portrays the moment of my emotional breakdown, where I experience heartache, but also find strength and growth through the immense love and support from my friends. It's also mean that I have myself, no matter what.

HOMEWORK 4.1

BLACK SQUARE

We had a simple assignment in class to inspire our creativity. The idea was that our first thoughts are usually the best answers. From this, I learned that even small changes can really affect the meaning and feeling of our work.

Every word holds a unique meaning for me, which allows me to get more creative when I connect them to different emotions, actions, and movements. For instance, take the word "tension." I can use it to highlight a big difference between objects. When a massive object is about to crush a tiny one, it makes viewers feel stressed. Similarly, "bold" suggests people concentrating on a distraction. But it's interesting if we think of a "distraction" as something less important. So, your eyes are likely focusing on what occupies the most space, which can be a fun way to look at things.

I've noticed that when I use the design thinking process while working on exercises, I become more organized. This happens because I need to deeply understand the topic I'm working on (sometimes using a dictionary) and explore various concepts thoroughly. Since this is a self-directed practice, I haven't focused much on the final step of getting feedback from others. From my perspective, this process seems like a continuous cycle until I achieve a truly satisfying result. While Neroli says "good is enough," I often wonder about my own limits. Should I keep going through the cycle until I'm completely exhausted? These thoughts extend to my approach not only when starting assignments but throughout the entire process.

CHOOSING PROMPT

Initially, four prompts caught my attention: Calm, Dream, and Memory. However, I realized it would be wiser to simplify the concepts and concentrate on effectively conveying the ideas within each theme. I've always held a fascination for fantasy worlds, creatures, and, in particular, wings.

Nevertheless, I'm keen on expanding my exploration. As a result, I've outlined specific platforms, contexts, and target audiences for the collection of icons I'm working on.

I haven't previously given much thought to the rubric. However, I decided to examine it this time. This choice is driven not only by my desire to keep up my GPA but also by my aspiration to excel and produce high-quality results in all my endeavors. It took me around half a day because I wasn't accustomed to it. Additionally, I attempted to condense the assignment requirements into a concise format, which significantly aided my understanding of what's expected. Although both processes were time-consuming, I believe they were valuable investments. They have essentially become my guiding framework throughout my entire learning journey.

THUMBNAIL SKETCHING

After numerous sketches, I gravitated towards a complex butterfly shape rather than a single line. Furthermore, I discovered that the more intricate the details, the more impressive the outcome. I realized that a twisted line wouldn't align well with this concept, as it might convey a slightly less polished appearance.

FLAT DESIGN

While attempting to draw the lines in Illustrator, I encountered a significant gap between my envisioned design and my actual execution. The intricate texture of the wings proved challenging to replicate in detailed sketches, with some areas lacking consistency. As a solution, I opted to use the initial drawing as a template for the rest.

I aim for my work to exhibit diversity while maintaining a cohesive "suite" feel. Each piece will feature distinct details, yet they will share a consistent aesthetic with uniform line weight, spacing, and five designated areas for coloring. I also ensure a balance between curved lines and sharp points to evoke a gentle, smooth sensation.

COLOR

I've always been captivated by Monet's art, which evokes memories of the sweetness and gentle allure of spring. The color palette is a defining feature of the art's success. Thus, I drew inspiration from Monet's palette to establish a cohesive aesthetic for the entire web project

SOUND RECORD

After class, I decided to record the sound of water to represent the natural aspect. However, there was a significant amount of background noise and unexpected disruptions. Additionally, while attempting to capture the sound of flipping books at the Melbourne State Library, I inadvertently made too much noise. Although the idea of recording the sound of children's books flipping was great, I ended up recording the sound of my hand movements at home. The delicate and gentle sound of my fingers touching each other turned out to be a perfect fit for simulating the flapping of the creature's wings

I recorded footage while experimenting with voice techniques, which proved to be relatively straightforward. The challenge lies in eliminating background noise and any unwanted crashing sounds that occurred during recording. My intention is to blend the sound of flapping wings with the gentle sound of water droplets, aiming to produce a soothing auditory experience. Because of having distinct rhythms, each recording possesses a unique quality, similar to the visuals.

RESULT

In conclusion, I am extremely content with the final outcome. While there are still some aspects I could expand upon, I am confident that the blog effectively conveys all the ideas I had for the assignment. This project holds personal significance, as it's not a collection of random thoughts but a message for a specific audience – my old friend who has struggled with mental health issues. Although we may no longer be in touch, I genuinely wish him the best
